Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos made the following statement regarding the abduction and murder of a Palestinian teenager in Eastern Jerusalem:

“The abduction and murder of an innocent Palestinian teenager, in retaliation for the recent murder of three Israeli youths, is a heinous and absurd act that is beyond human understanding.

We express our deep condolences to the family and to the Palestinian people.

We unequivocally condemn acts of blind violence that are aimed at destabilizing the already tense situation and at escalating the violence.

We call on Israel and the Palestinian Authority to do everything they can to avert further loss of innocent lives and strengthen the political dialogue, as the only path to finding a peaceful and viable solution.”
