  1. EU approves new sanctions against Russia, but not sectoral ones...

In Brussels, members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives of 28 countries of the European Union gathered for a meeting to discuss new sanctions against the Russian Federation. The European politicians approved new members of the sanctions list - individuals and legal entities from Russia and Ukraine. However, the EU does not intend to impose new sanctions against entire sectors of the Russian economy.

Permanent representatives listened to joint proposals from the European Commission and the EU External Action Service to expand the "black list". Currently, the new sanctions were introduced against 15 individuals and 18 companies, ITAR-TASS reports with reference to a diplomatic source in Brussels.

No named have been specified yet. However, Bloomberg, citing its sources, reported that the sanctions affected the head of the Russian FSB Alexander Bortnikov. According to the agency, there are no large corporations among 18 companies that fall under new restrictions.

In addition, the agency said, the list may include the President of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia Mikhail Fradkov and Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev...................http://english.pravda.ru/business/companies/24-07-2014/128145-eu_russia_sanctions-0/

  2. EU reaches preliminary deal on Russia economic sanctions.....

(Reuters) - European Union ambassadors reached a preliminary agreement on Friday to push ahead with hard-hitting economic sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine crisis but details remained to be worked out, diplomats said.

The 28-nation EU has toughened its stance towards Moscow since last week's downing of a Malaysian airliner in an area of eastern Ukraine held by Russian-backed separatists.

After a discussion that lasted all day Thursday and part of Friday, ambassadors asked the EU's executive Commission to draw up a legal text setting out economic sanctions that the EU would impose for possible agreement next week.

Key measures suggested by the Commission included closing EU capital markets to state-owned Russian banks, an embargo on arms sales to Moscow and restrictions on the supply of energy and dual-use technologies. They would not affect current supplies of oil, gas and other commodities from Russia, diplomats said.

One EU official said there was "an overall preliminary agreement on the concept" but ambassadors would hold more discussions next week on the basis of the legal text..............http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/07/25/us-ukraine-crisis-eu-idUSKBN0FU0Y820140725?feedType=RSS&feedName=worldNews
