Poroshenko hopes Japan will impose new sanctions against Russia

Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko has expressed hope that Japan will impose new sanctions against Russia.

Japan’s Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, who is currently in Ukraine on an official visit, said Tokyo “will react respectively”.

Kishida said Japan “does not recognise status quo change by force. “I mean Crimea’s accession to Russia”, Kyodo Tsuchin News Agency said on Thursday.

Earlier, Kishida met with his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin.

Japanese government has imposed additional sanctions on Russia on April 29. The sanctions envisage temporary termination of issuing entry visas for 23 officials of Russian official agencies and other people. The first package of sanctions against Russia had been introduced on March 18. These sanctions were related with Russia’s position on the Republic of Crimea.
