Ukraine to impose transit of Gas supply as sanctions against Russia

Ukraine government suggests imposing sanctions against any transits via Ukrainian territory, including air flights and gas transit. Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk told Ukraine has right to impose 26 types of sanctions against Russia.

The Ukraine government suggests imposing sanctions against 172 people, including Russians and citizens of other countries, as well as 65 companies predominantly Russian, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk told a briefing on Friday.

The cabinet of ministers has already handed over its sanctions list to Ukraine’s National Security Council, which is expected to make the final decision on penalties against Russia.

“The 172 individuals include the citizens of Russia and other countries while the 65 legal entities subject to sanctions are predominantly Russian,” Yatsenyuk stressed. Earlier on Friday, Yatsenyuk said Ukraine had the right to impose sanctions against Russia, including a freeze of assets; bans on activities and privatization of state property and the use of licenses as well as partial transit of resources. Yatsenuyk also said the Ukraine government suggested imposing sanctions against any transits via Ukrainian territory, including air flights and gas transit.

He also pledged to launch a global search for the property of people who stood behind “the annexation of Crimea”.

“Ukraine is going to search the globe for the property of those who supported the annexation of Crimea,” Yatsenyuk said.

  1. Ukraine unveils sanctions plan against Russia ...

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk on Friday unveiled a package of sanctions his country might introduce against Russia over its alleged help for insurgents in the east.

"The cabinet has approved a draft law on sanctions. It is the first time in the history of Ukraine, when our country is forced to impose restrictions against a foreign state," Yatsenyuk told a media briefing.

The sanctions plan, consisting of 26 points, would target Russia's defense, financial, transport, energy and information technology sectors, he said.

According to him, the sanctions would be applied against Russian individuals and companies that allegedly sponsor independence-seeking insurgents in eastern Ukraine and declare support for Crimea's affiliation with Russia.

The sanctions would touch a total of 172 people, Yatsenyuk said, without providing a list of individuals and companies affected.

The sanctions plan needs an approval from the Ukrainian parliament and the National Security and Defense Council to come into force.

Kiev has repeatedly blamed Moscow for inciting unrest in eastern Ukraine, where rebels are demanding independence. Russia, however, has denied the charges, saying the accusations are groundless.
