The Estonian military claim that the Russian aircraft stayed in Estonia’s air space for about one minute and penetrated into the Estonian territory by 500 metres. This incident was allegedly registered by the Estonian air traffic control centre.
“The aircraft had no mission plan, its transponder was switched off. The plane did not come into radio contact with the Estonian Air Transport Service,” the General Staff said.
Portuguese fighter jets F-16, which are currently deployed at Lithuania’s Zokniai air base under the rotation of NATO member states to protect the air space of the three Baltic states, were scrambled to intercept the Russian aircraft. In was reported that they had seen the Il-20 over neutral waters.

According to the press service, the Russian plane performed a routine training flight from the Khrabrovo airfield in the Russian westernmost Kaliningrad region over neutral waters of the Baltic Sea.

ReplyDeleteDie Maschine des Typs Il-20 sei ohne Erlaubnis in den Luftraum des westlichen Verteidigungsbündnisses eingedrungen, teilte ein Sprecher am Mittwochabend im belgischen Mons mit. Estland kritisierte die Verletzung seines Luftraums vom Dienstag und übergab eine Protestnote.
Portugiesische F-16-Piloten hätten Sichtkontakt mit der Besatzung der Maschine aufgenommen und sie aus dem NATO-Luftraum hinausbegleitet. Der Vorfall ereignete sich den Angaben der NATO zufolge bereits am Dienstag nahe der estnischen Insel Saaremaa. Das russische Flugzeug sei in Richtung Dänemark unterwegs gewesen und rund 600 Meter weit in den NATO-Luftraum eingedrungen, hieß es. Neben den portugiesischen Jets waren auch belgische F-16 sowie Flugzeuge des Kooperationspartners Schweden an der Abfangmission beteiligt. NATO and Swedish fighter jets were scrambled to intercept a Russian intelligence-gathering plane that briefly entered Estonian airspace on Tuesday, the alliance said on Wednesday....

Fighters from Denmark as well as Portuguese F-16s from NATO's air policing mission in the Baltics took off after radar detected an unidentified aircraft flying close to NATO airspace in the Baltic Sea, NATO said.
The plane was identified as a Russian IL-20 intelligence-gathering aircraft that had taken off from Russia's Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad, heading towards Denmark.
The Russian aircraft was first intercepted by Danish F-16s and later, as it headed further north, by fighters from Sweden, which is not a NATO member.

Il ministero della Difesa russo smentisce le dichiarazioni delle autorità estoni riguardo la presunta violazione dello spazio aereo da parte di unità dell'Aviazione Militare russa....
ReplyDeleteAl dicastero della Difesa hanno riferito che nella giornata di ieri un aereo, dopo essere decollato dalla base di Khrabrovo nella regione di Kaliningrad (Russia occidentale), aveva effettuato un volo di addestramento sopra le acque internazionali del Mar Baltico. Il volo è stato eseguito in conformità con le norme internazionali sull'uso dello spazio aereo.
In precedenza dal quartier generale delle forze di Difesa estoni avevano riferito che un aereo spia russo “Il-20” aveva violato lo spazio aereo del Paese.
