Honduras has ended its decades-long diplomatic relations with Taiwan in favour of ties with China, prompting Taipei to accuse Beijing of using “coercion and intimidation” to lure its few remaining allies.
The Honduran foreign ministry said on Saturday that “the government of Honduras recognises the existence of just one China in the world”.
Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang and his Honduran counterpart Eduardo Enrique Reina signed a joint communique in Beijing on the establishment of diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level.
"The governments of the two countries agreed to develop friendly relations based on the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality, mutual benefit and peaceful coexistence," the document says.
China and Honduras signed a joint communique in Beijing on Sunday on the establishment of diplomatic relations.

According to the communique, the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Honduras, in keeping with the interests and desires of the two peoples, have decided to recognize each other and establish diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level, effective from the date of signature of this communique.

Las autoridades hondureñas destacaron que reconocen "la existencia de una sola China en el mundo" y rompieron sus lazos diplomáticos con Taiwán.
