Am vergangenen Wochenende hatte US-Präsident Barack Obama den US-Kongress ersucht, eine Militäroperation gegen Syrien zu billigen. Seine Pläne begründet Washington damit, dass die syrische Armee am 21. August in Vororten von Damaskus Kampfstoffe gegen die Zivilbevölkerung eingesetzt hat. Dabei sind angeblich rund 1400 Menschen ums Leben gekommen.

Van Rompuy: 'Francia es el único de la UE que quiere atacar Siria'...
ReplyDeleteEl presidente del Consejo Europeo, Herman Van Rompuy, ha dejado claro que el llamamiento de ayer del presidente de Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, para lanzar un ataque de castigo al régimen sirio pincha en hueso en la Unión Europea con la única excepción de París.
"Todos los países europeos tienen un debate interno sobre Siria y hay diferencia entre los que quieren participar en los ataques y los que no. Actualmente solo Francia quiere participar", ha afirmado en una inusual declaración en la que presenta como aislado a un país de la UE.
Según Van Rompuy, la UE "seguirá promoviendo una solución política" y ha asegurado que "no hay solución militar".
En opinión del belga, las pruebas reunidas por los países aliados "parecen indicar" que el responsable del uso de armas químicas es el régimen de Bashar Asad, pero no lo da tan por seguro como Obama. Van Rompuy solicita respeto a la investigación de la ONU y ha reclamado que los inspectores presenten una conclusión cuanto antes.

PETERSBURG, September 5 (RIA Novosti, Howard Amos) – The European Union’s two most senior officials called Thursday for a political solution to the ongoing conflict in Syria as world leaders gathered in St. Petersburg for a G20 Summit that is expected to be dominated by US calls for the use of force against the Syrian regime.
“There is no military solution to the Syrian conflict, only a political solution can end the terrible slaughter and grave violations of human rights,” European Council President Herman Van Rompuy told reporters in St. Petersburg shortly after US President Barack Obama arrived in the city.
This call for a political solution was echoed by President of the European Commission Jose Barroso.
