Zakharova reminded the Turkish authorities about the fate of the Ottoman Empire

The Turkish authorities dream to revive the Ottoman Empire, but forget about her fate. This opinion was expressed by the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova in an interview with Izvestia published Wednesday, may 4.

“The impression is that it [the Turkish government] wants to recover some former power of the Ottoman Empire. At least all the components of his modern politics develop it in this picture. What ended the Ottoman Empire, we all know”, — said Zakharov.

The diplomat noted that Russia has all ways tried to settle at the negotiating table, differences with Ankara, however, everything rests on the current government of Turkey, which Moscow suffered very long time.” “Which track to take — the Crimea, Syria, refugees, terrorism, national question and so forth, everywhere we see the absolutely destructive role of the Turkish leadership,” she stated.

While Zakharov expressed the opinion that a change of the position of Ankara in the near future should not count, as the Turkish authorities “escalate the situation”. At the same time, Moscow, according to her, is in a constructive mood. “We’re not perfect, but we are ready to work and work with what causes concern to the international community. We explain our position. We use all legal methods”, — concluded the representative of the foreign Ministry.

Relations between Russia and Turkey escalated in the fall of 2015 after the November 24, Turkey shot down a Russian front-line bomber su-24, involved in the antiterrorist operation in Syria. Russia imposed on Turkey the number of restrictions, in particular, banning the import of certain food products, Charter flights and canceling a visa-free regime.

The Ottoman Empire was founded by Turkish tribes in 1299 in Anatolia. Dawn of the highest state reached in the XVI-XVII centuries, when under his control were the southern Europe, much of Asia and North Africa. After the First World war was followed by the collapse of the Empire and establishment of Turkish Republic.
